About Golden Fudge Filled Bars

Looking for something out of the box for dessert tonight? These golden fudge bars are a great choice and are also very easy to make. But before we start baking let’s talk a little more about fudge.

Where Did Fudge Come From?

The origins of fudge are a bit of a mystery, but it is thought to have originated in the United States in the late 1800s. The first recorded recipe for fudge was published in 1886, and it became a popular treat among college students at the time. Then, in the early 1900s, fudge recipes began to show up in cookbooks, and the popularity of fudge spread across the country.

What Is a Fudge Bar?

A fudge bar is a chocolate dessert that typically has a layer of chocolate fudge on the bottom, and then a layer of cake or brownie on top. Sometimes, the fudge layer is in the middle, and there are variations with different kinds of frosting or toppings. But generally speaking, a fudge bar has layers of chocolate deliciousness!

The great thing about making your own fudge bars is that you can control the ingredients and make them as healthy or indulgent as you want. You can also experiment with different flavors and mix-ins. So if you are looking for a new dessert to try, we recommend giving fudge bars a go, starting with our golden fudge filled bars!

Prep Time: 20 minutes | Bake Time: 30 minutes | Yield: 24 bars

Ingredients:

  • 1 (18.5 oz.) yellow cake mix
  • 1 (20 oz.) pkg. semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 c. butter, melted
  • 1 (14 oz.) can sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 c. creamy peanut butter
  • 2 Tbsp. butter
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp. vanilla

Instructions:

Preheat the oven to 325°F. In a large mixing bowl, combine cake mix, peanut butter, melted butter, and eggs. Press the mixture into a 13″x 9″ baking dish that has been lightly greased or sprayed. Reserve 1 1/2 cups for sprinkling on top.

In a small saucepan on low heat, melt the chocolate chips, sweetened condensed milk, and butter. Remove from heat, then stir in the vanilla.

On top of the cake mixture pressed in the pan, spread the chocolate mixture, then crumble the 1 1/2 cups of reserved cake together evenly on top. Place in the oven and bake for 30 minutes, or until set and golden brown. Allow it to cool before cutting into bars.
