How to Make Raspberry Cheesecake Brownies
Hungry for dessert? Let’s get into this delicious recipe in a moment, but first, we’ll learn a little more about brownies.
Where Do Brownies Come From?
The first brownies were created in the late 1800s, and they were very different from the rich chocolatey squares we know and love today. Originally, brownies were more like cake-like cookies that were flavored with molasses or chocolate. It wasn’t until the early 1900s that recipes for brownies started to include cocoa powder, giving them the rich chocolate flavor we know and love today.
The first brownie recipe appeared in print in the Boston Cooking School Cookbook in 1896. The recipe called for melted chocolate, eggs, sugar, flour, and baking powder to be combined and baked in a square pan. This early brownie recipe did not include frosting or nuts, two of the most popular brownie toppings today.
What Makes a Brownie a Brownie?
So what exactly makes a brownie a brownie? According to the definition, there are three key ingredients that every brownie must have:
Chocolate: Cocoa powder or melted chocolate is what gives brownies their rich chocolate flavor.
Butter: Butter adds moisture and richness to brownies.
Sugar: Brownies wouldn’t be sweet without sugar!
Of course, there are many other ingredients that can be added to brownies, including nuts, frosting, and fruit. But these three ingredients are the key to making a delicious batch of brownies.
