To all of our valued customers, we hope you’re getting through this pandemic as best as possible. For those who have experienced illness, you have our best wishes for a speedy recovery! Now that the holidays are upon us, it’s going to be a busy time for consumers and appliance repair companies like ourselves. That’s why we’d like to offer our most important Thanksgiving appliance tips to help you avoid a last-minute holiday disaster.
Thanksgiving Appliance Tips from the Pros
If you’re hosting Thanksgiving this year, it’s important to make sure that your oven is working properly. You should also take steps to ensure that your dishwasher is running smoothly since there will definitely be plenty of dirty dishes!
Oven Maintenance
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there are currently many replacement parts that are unavailable due to factory backorders. Parts that are usually readily available cannot be obtained at the moment. And unfortunately, it’s unlikely that this will change by the time Thanksgiving rolls around.
Due to this parts shortage, we recommend that you DO NOT use your oven’s self-cleaning feature until after the holidays. The self-cleaning cycle can cause a number of problems that could potentially leave you without a working oven on the big day!
Instead, we recommend that you make your own all-natural oven cleaner or use one of the many oven cleaning products that are safe to use with self-cleaning ovens. Just be sure that you choose a product that says “safe for self-cleaning ovens”.
Note: You should not use any of these types of oven cleaning products on the Whirlpool, KitchenAid, JennAir, or Maytag “AquaLift” non-self-cleaning ovens. This is because there’s the potential of causing permanent damage to the oven interior. Refer to your model’s Use & Care guide, or visit Whirlpool’s website to obtain the “cleaning kit” that’s meant to be used for “AquaLift” models.
Oven Temperature Issues
Around Thanksgiving, we also receive many service requests from customers experiencing oven temperature issues. Nothing is more disappointing than making the perfect holiday recipe only for your oven to overcook, undercook, or bake unevenly. Let us help you avoid these problems.
We’ve written a detailed article on how to troubleshoot oven temperature issues. These instructions detail how to calibrate your oven’s thermostat along with other suggestions for how to improve cooking performance. We recommend following these tips to make sure Thanksgiving dinner goes off without a hitch!
Dishwasher Maintenance
Since you’ll have a sink full of dirty dishes after Thanksgiving dinner, now is a good time to make sure your dishwasher is ready to handle it. The most important step you can take is to clean out your dishwasher filter. Always run lukewarm water in your kitchen sink prior to starting your dishwasher for better cleaning performance. This helps to get rid of the cold water to the dishwasher fills up with hot water right away.
And be sure to use a rinse aid along with a high-quality dishwasher detergent. Some of the products we recommend include Quantum Finish Powerball Tablets or the Cascade Platinum Soap Pacs.
